The History of Homer Animal Friends

Homer Animal Friends was formed in 1984 by a group of people concerned with the cruelty they saw as a result of too many unwanted dogs and cats.

We have assisted owners of over 7,437 dogs and cats with the cost of sterilization. Although available to any dog or cat owner, we especially target animals adopted from the shelter, multi-dog households and low income households. Our Shelter Fund provides ongoing financial support to the Animal Shelter  animals for veterinary care and the extras that make a difference in animal comfort and well being.

We teach pet ownership responsibility and bite prevention through demonstrations in the elementary schools and at the Homer Health Fair & Safe Kids Fair. We purchase and donate to the Homer Public Library books and DVD’s on pet care and training.
