Our Mission

‘We promote animal welfare through spay/neuter programs, community education and animal shelter support.’

When our organization was founded in 1986, the main goal was to make sure the stray animals picked up in or community were treated humanely.  There was no ‘Homer Animal Shelter’ just a small shack where animals were kept…………

Through the years we have continued to fight to help stray animals in our community and now have an animal friendly shelter with beautiful gardens and a play yard.

Homer Animal Friends is a local non-profit not affiliated with any national organization.  Our Board and trainers are volunteers giving their time and talents to better the lives of Homer’s pets.

As part of a compassionate community, we:

-financially support the animals at the Homer Animal Shelter.

-reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter coupons and clinics.

-provide positive reinforcement dog training and enrichment through Homer Dog Trainers.

-educate children and adults about pets and their needs.

-provide carefully sourced food, equipment and toys at our Homer Animal Friends Store.

Over the years, we have been able to significantly reduce the number of homeless pets and support an overall better quality of life for the animals in our community.  We are extremely grateful to the community of Homer for their continued support.

We encourage owners to interact with their pet to form a bond that will last a lifetime.

We are 100% volunteer organization – our programs depend on donations, memberships, grants and regular fund raising events.
